"Layers of Grief" Textile, 20"x28", A memorial piece in remembrance of Parents-in-law Ruth and Jim who tragically both died in a car accident in 2003. Silks and cottons were dyed in funeral and casket flowers, fabrics were buried in the dirt with rusty nails and fabric was allowed to decay with the addition of water and pressure. The abstract signifies the grieving process of coming out of the darkness into the light. Also seaweed and kelp flow loosely on the surface in remembrance of the last major trip taken with them to the Monterrey aquarium. Throughout the creative process, the finished piece became lighter, more ethereal, and less complex as healing took place.
